S01E01 : WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?

What is Artificial Intelligence?



It is the ability of a system to calculate, reason, perceive relationships and analogies, learn from experience, store and retrieve information from memory, solve problems, compare complex ideas, use natural language fluently, classify, generalise, and adapt to new situations.

There are 4 branches of Artificial Intelligence currently in the production processes and manufacturing. These are:

  • Robotics
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Expert Systems
  • Neural Networks

These are the ones that at at times we may have interacted with.

The other drop down is that there are many types of Artificial Intelligence such as:

  • Artificial Narrow Intelligence
  • Artificial General Intelligence
  • Artificial Super Intelligence



Others are:

  • Linguistic Intelligence that deals with natural language processing and analysis of foreign languages
  • Musical Intelligence that structurally deals with music retractions and song finders as well as content copyrighting
  • Logical-Mathematical Intelligence dealing with large computational arithmetics in algorithms
  • Spatial Intelligence dealing with visual/spatial information, change it and recreate visual images without reference to the object, construct 3D images, move and rotate them.
  • Intra-Personal Intelligence.
  • Inter-Personal Intelligence.
  • Bodily-Kinesthetic.
 Application areas of Artificial Intelligence:

  • Gaming e.g., chess, pocker, tic-tac-toe, or where the machine can think of large number of possible positions based on heuristic knowledge.
  • Expert Systems e.g., an app which integrates machine software and special information to impart reasoning and advising, providing explanation to the users.
  • Vision Systems in understanding, interpreting and comprehending visual input on the computer.
  • Speech Recognition Systems e.g., Google Voice search or intelligent systems capable of hearing and comprehending the language in terms of sentences and their meanings while a human talks to it. It can handle different accents, slang words, noise in the background, change in human's voice due to cold e.t.c.
  • Handwriting Recognition Systems: Reads the text written on paper by a pen or on screen by a stylus. Can recognise the shape of letters and convert it into editable text.


Purposes of Artificial Intelligence:
  • Reasoning
  • Learning: Auditory, Observational and Perceptual
  • Problem Solving
  • Perception
